ACCCJ ELECTION RULES

This revised Election Rules was approved by the ACCCJ Board of Directors on February 3 and will take effect on March 1, 2023.

A.  Election Committee

‘Election committee’ shall comprise a Chair (current Board member), and at least a student representative and a non-director/ individual member.

B.  Election Time-table (may slightly vary)

  1. September 1: Election Chair shall receive a roll, certified by the Board, of all members who are eligible to participate in the election. Members who have paid their membership fee by August 31st are eligible to nominate, be nominated, and vote in an election.
  2. September 1: call for nomination.
  3. September 15: nomination closes.
  4. September 16: announcement of nominations.
  5. September 16-23: any objections to a candidate’s nomination may be made in writing with specific reasons of objections and be submitted to the Election Committee.
  6. September 24: campaign materials are due and posted to the members.
  7. September 30: upon receiving an objection to a nomination, Election Committee and/or the Board of Directors shall deliberate and send a written response to the member who raised the objection.
  8. October 1: ballots are sent to the members and voting starts (only fully paid members on or before August 31 are entitled to vote).
  9. October 20: voting closes.
  10. October 27: run-off elections are completed.
  11. October 31: Election Committee Chair announces election results.

C.  Nominations

  1. The Election Committee oversees the development of a slate of candidates for the elected positions.
  2. All current members are eligible to submit nominations, including self-nominating. The current Election Committee members should not be a candidate for any position in an election, but may nominate others and are entitled to vote.
  3. After the nomination closes, the list of nominees must be approved by the Board of Directors, and will be announced to all members.

D.  Voting

All current ACCCJ members shall be entitled to vote. Only valid members on or before August 31st each year are entitled to vote.

E.  Election Results

  1. Candidates for all positions shall be elected based on the simple majority rule. In case there is a tie, a run-off election will be held between the tied candidates.
  2. If no candidate receives a single majority vote, a run-off election will be held between the two candidates who received the highest votes.
  3. The Chair of the Election Committee will advise the President the election results and will announce the election results. The results shall be kept as the official record of ACCCJ.
